ETTG has attended two days of insightful meetings: a first private discussion with Pedro Conceição, Director of the Human Development Report Office – United Nations Development Programme at UNDP, where we delved into the findings of the insightful 2023/2024 Human Development Report entitled “Breaking the gridlock – Reimagining cooperation in a polarised world”.
The meeting brought together ETTG experts to explore critical issues and brainstorm actionable solutions. We were honoured to facilitate this vital discussion and believe the report offers a valuable roadmap for building a more resilient and equitable future.
▫️ The report paints a stark picture of a world grappling with escalating conflicts, rising displacement, and record-breaking temperatures. These interconnected crises have stalled and even reversed progress on human development.
▫️ However, the report doesn’t advocate isolationism. Instead, it emphasises the need to reimagine cooperation in a more interdependent world. We must navigate the complexities of globalisation to tackle shared challenges like pandemics and climate change.
▫️ It sets three essential action points: to build a 21st century architecture for global public goods, to dial down temperatures / push back polarization and lastly, to narrow agency gaps.
The conversations continued on Day 2 with a public presentation and panel featuring prominent speakers like Caroline Gennez, Jutta Urpilainen , Achim Steiner, and Pedro Conceição, alongside commentaries by ambassadors.
