“Future of the EU-AU peace and security partnership” event ISS/ECDPM

February 15, 2022

Several issues on the agenda of the 17-18 February European Union (EU)–African Union (AU) summit in Brussels could re-shape the continental partnership. These are the introduction of the European Peace Facility, Africa’s recent wave of unconstitutional changes of government, geopolitics and internationalised conflicts, and the AU’s ongoing efforts to finance African peace and security engagements.

This joint seminar of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) will consider the significance of the summit, the priorities and interests of Africa and Europe, and what to expect from the discussions.

Chair: Ottilia Anna Maunganidze, Head of Special Projects, ISS

Speakers:

Brigitte Markussen, Head of Delegation and EU Special Representative to the AU

Frederic Gateretse Ngoga, Ambassador and Head, Conflict Prevention and Early Warning Division, AU Commission
