The negotiation on the next Multi Annual Financial Plan (MFF) that started in 2018 plays a strategic role for the European Union (EU). The MFF will not only affect the dimension, the structure and the priorities of the EU budget from 2021 to 2027, but it will also outline the challenges that will need to be addressed in a very crucial and delicate period for the Union.
Against this backdrop, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) as a member of the European Think Tanks Group (ETTG) is organizing an event on the new MFF 2021-2027. The aim is to enrich the public debate in Italy on this issue in a cross-cutting way, by focusing on its impact for the EU external action.
The workshop will allow to grasp some core topics linked to European external action, such as the management of migration flows, international security and development cooperation. In this sense, the event will on the one hand assess the current status of the negotiations on the MFF; on the other hand, it will reflect on the different options available for Italy to define a national strategy able to sustain both national and European interests.
The seminar will involve several stakeholders, ranging from Italian Ministries (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Interiors), Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), research institutions and relevant experts and practitioners on European integration policy.
