The ETTG Secretariat (Daniele Fattibene) and members (ECDPM, IDDRI, and ODI Global) were actively involved in the 5th Finance in Common Summit (FICS) in Cape Town, South Africa.
The event ran alongside the G20 finance ministers meeting and brought together over 2,500 participants representing more than 530 Public Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions that collectively manage 10% of global investment.
ETTG co-organised a high-level session on “Unlocking PDB’s potential for an Ambitious FfD4 Outcome” moderated by Shari Spiegel (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs), in partnership with the Global Research Network on PDBs (Thomas Melonio, Nicolas Picchiottino) the FICS Secretariat Rémy Rioux and Adama MARIKO).
San Bilal, Cecilia D’Alessandro and Karim Karaki represented ECDPM, Céline Kauffmann and Elise Dufief – IDDRI and Samantha Attridge and Hans Peter Lankes – ODI Global.
In today’s uncertain global landscape, the summit reinforced several critical priorities:
• Building 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 architecture is essential for meeting development and climate goals
• 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 in 𝗱𝗲-𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 and 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 like COP30 and G20
• PDBs have a powerful 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 in climate finance, agri-food, digital infrastructure, and more
• While public resources are vital, 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 – especially as international aid faces cuts in many countries
• 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 for climate-positive growth
