ETTG had the pleasure to host a two-day event in Accra, Ghana entitled
“Africa – Europe dialogue and partnership on the role of AI, disinformation and cybersecurity in elections” with ODI and the great support of local partners Ghana Center For Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). The event is a part of a two-year partnership with Stiftung Mercator GmbH focused on the nexus between peace-security-governance and digital in the EU-Africa context.
Over 50 participants from across the globe came together, including EU and African policymakers, electoral management body members, industry experts from the private sector, from CSOs and researchers. Three policy briefs by CDD and ETTG members (ODI, ECDPM , Elcano Royal Institute) informed the dialogue, examining the AU-EU cyber cooperation and challenges of mis/disinformation during election cycles and exploring potential responses.
• We discussed African and European responses across various contexts and ways to support the development of trusted, reliable, and diverse information ecosystems that can mitigate risks of violence and polarisation during elections, amongst many others.
• This timely event comes as Ghana prepares for its upcoming elections, underlining the importance of multi stakeholder efforts to tackle global issues.
Stay tuned for further outputs.
