This week in Paris, the European Think Tanks Group (ETTG) convened the 4th Annual Dialogue on the EU and Global Development. Against the backdrop of a global polycrisis and significant shifts in the multilateral system, the event provided a valuable forum for a closed-door, frank exchange under the Chatham House rule.
The dialogue brought together senior policymakers from over 10 EU member states, the European Commission, and the United Nations, alongside experts from the ETTG network. Discussions centered on three critical areas for the EU’s international cooperation:
- The state of multilateralism and the challenges to global governance
- The EU’s strategy for alliances in a fragmented geopolitical landscape
- The effective use of the EU’s financial instruments, particularly the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)
Insights from these discussions will inform an ETTG policy brief, which will be published before the end of 2025.
We extend our sincere thanks to our co-organisers, IDDRI (Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales), and to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation for their support.
